Employee Well-being during COVID-19 in Higher Education Institution in Malaysia

A Case Study


The impact of COVID-19 is felt around the world, and governments’ implementation of “physical distancing” and isolation measures to help stem the spread of the disease, concerns about the immediate and long-term effects of the virus on employees’ well-being are being raised. This study attempts to identify the effects of COVID-19 on employee well-being by focusing on the following factors, which are emotional wellness, family interaction, mental health, organizational psychosocial support, and working from home. Data were gathered through an online survey, where it was distributed to 1000 respondents among academics and non-academics in a higher education institution. PLS-SEM  analysis was used to validate the validity and reliability of the measurement item, while structural equation modeling was used for hypotheses testing. The result revealed that from the five hypotheses proposed, four hypotheses were accepted, and one was rejected, which concerned the mental aspect. This study was conducted in one higher education institution. Thus, in the future, the research study shall be conducted at other private and public HEIs
