Design of a Buck Converter for Beach Electric Bicycle Drive System

The objective of this paper is to design a DC drive system for a beach electric bicycle. The proposed drive system enable the electric bicycle to be riding freely on sandy beach and concrete pavements. The specification of the electric bicycle and how it operates in beach and city has been given. A buck converter was designed to drive the motor in the bicycle. All the parameters used in the buck converter were calculated and used as a reference for hardware component selection. The datasheets for each component were referred as a guideline to develop simulation model of the system in MATLAB Simulink software. Results obtained from the simulation were discussed and compared with theoretical calculations to verify the accuracy of the design.
