I am Safe
Abstract
The construction industry has a notably higher percentage of workplace fatalities. Improving workers' safety behaviour in the foreign workforce requires the application of effective safety intervention strategies. Construction accidents can result in permanent disability or even death. This poster was designed to address one of the causes of the alarmingly high death toll among foreign workers, namely the language barrier. The qualitative research included in the poster resulted from information gathered from semi-structured interviews with 15 informants. The informants include CIDB instructors, SHO, site supervisors, contractors, OSH experts and foreign workers. ATLAS. Ti version 9 software is used to analyse the verbatim transcription. According to the study's results, foreign workers are the most likely to violate basic safety regulations because they cannot understand the instruction. This infographic is a powerful tool as it provides basic information on Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) which is compulsory in any construction project. Currently, there is no multilanguage infographic with eight translations covering fundamental safety measures (with images) available in the market. This infographic is suitable to display at the construction site and can be a useful tool to assist site supervisors, SHO and CIDB trainers in helping foreign workers to understand basic safety equipment.
