Abstract

The UK, Germany, Ireland and Denmark all require reactive power/voltage control, frequency response and fault ride through for transmission system connected wind farms. Variable speed power converter based generators fulfill both voltage and reactive power control requirements. Fault ride through techniques for DFIG machines can utilize crowbar, active crowbar and coordinated crowbar and chopper methods. For FPC machines fast pitching, use of braking resistor and de-loading is presented. Methods for restoration of inertia response are also shown for both.
