Abstract

Generation and storage of combination of different sources of power and energy, is called hybrid power. Renewable energy components of this hybrid power plant are balanced through a second form of generation or storage such as a DG (diesel genset), battery etc. This type of power system becomes smart by communicating, sensing and controlling the whole power network. Such power system is kept pollution free, cost effective, operations friendly, against all types of hazards and danger. In this paper, standards, developments and recent challenges of hybrid power system technology are discussed.  With the implementation of IT (Information and Technology), conventional power system is made relatively smarter hybrid power system. But programming a smart control unit will be integrated with the system, which is called ‘smart unit’. Finally with context, environment and situation of project location, the ‘smart unit’ will be upgraded successively.
